We are surrounded by wilderness in a secluded bay on 16 acres, with nearly a ¼ mile of shoreline. Lake Kabetogama (Ka-be-tow-ga-ma) is one of a chain of wilderness Border Lakes with majestic scenery and part of Voyageurs National Park on the Minnesota, Ontario border.
From our dock, there are 65 miles of uninhabited, road-less wilderness waterways with hundreds of islands, bays, coves, rock bluffs and gorges. There are 19 other remote hike in or fly in lakes with a variety of fishing and lots of adventure. Fisherman love the fishing, our cabins are loved by the ladies and those particular about their comforts, kids love our sandy beach, water trampoline and our weekly Youth Quest.

"Northern Lights Resort has the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets that a person could imagine.  The managers are exceptional and always there to assist in anything that is needed.  The cabins and grounds are kept in pristine condition and are constantly being upgraded.  Ther is nothing that could be added to this resort to make your vacation on Kabetogama a more pleasing experience.  I can hardly wait to return next year to enjoy our time in Northern Minnesota."  -- Mike Obraske

50.5" Northern Caught by Northern Lights Resort Guest
It took a lot of skill and 6 laps around the boat for Brent Lien to land this 50 1/2" Northern with an 18.5" girth on 6# line without a leader.  Brent's dad Doug did a great job with the net not to knock off this fragile caught fighter of a Northern.  It is estimated to weigh between 32 & 35 lbs.  The fish was released.  The DNR estimates the age of this fish to be over 20 years old!  They now have a story to tell for life!!  The Lien's are good fishermen and repeat customers of Northern Lights Resort.
Check out our Fish page for more information about fishing at Northern Lights Resort.
Horse Back Riding Lessons
Special Offer for Northern Lights Resort Guests
Horse riding lessons in an indoor arena!  This beautiful facility is located 30 miles from Northern Lights and the cost is only $25 per hour.  We the owners (and especially our granddaughter who will be taking lessons) of Northern Lights are really pleased to offer this special treat to the guests of Northern Lights.
The quality of the stables is impressive and we are proud to have the opportunity to share this with our guests. Plan to include this activity while you are at Northern Lights Resort. Call ahead as the lessons have to be coordinated around the schedule of the trainer.  This opportunity and the cost at $25/hr is a very unique opportunity.

Guests can make lesson reservations when they arrive at the resort.  Lessons will be given during the weekdays Monday - Friday.  For more information on the riding lessons please call the resort

Northern Lights Resort is a Green business

Prior to the opening of the season, NL sanitizes the well and the entire water system to every faucet of every cabin and every faucet of possible personal consumption. We conserve water with low flush toilets, water saver shower heads and other devices.  NL has a sofisticated pretreatment sewer system that is collected from around the resort, pumped to pretreatment wetlands and eventually to alternating drain fields 800' to 1,300' back from the lake.  With your help (and we thank you) we re-cycle and pay to have garbage hauled nearly 90 miles from the resort.  We are converting to low watt florescent light bulbs, use biodegradable and safe cleaning products and are exploring the addition of adding solar to suppliment some of our energy needs. As our budget allows you will see we are converting our outboard motors to 4-stroke for more efficient gas consumption and less lake polution.  We take extra measures to deal with rodents and insects that may intrude into the cabins.  We are conscious of and deal responsibly with our enviroment.
We are committed, Pat, Tom, Heidi and Harlan.
